The first poem is written in a style that is new to me. It is a Korean style known as Sijo, and like my haikus I have slightly broken the rules of proper form. I decided keeping with proper subject matter was more important than keeping with the rules that govern syllabic counts (so long as a proper rhythm is maintained, it isn’t that important anyway). I have opted to write the poem in three lines, although six lines is also acceptable when writing Sijo.

Cirrus clouds, stretched and still on silent blue sky.
Still a foot of snow buries my sorrows.
I have written haikus, or poems that mimic haikus, for several years. This poem is one of them.
Wind lost snowflake drifting,
There is no fate. so I ask,
“Where will I fall?”
